Leisure Careers & Tourism Careers – Careers in Tourism – Leisure Jobs

Tourism is responsible for a high amount of investment in the UK economy.  As a result during both high peak and low peak seasons, employees have various vacancies for those that are interested in leisure and tourism careers.  The demand for these types of jobs has increased in recent years given the large number of tourists that come to the UK year after year.  There are different types of jobs that are involved in leisure and tourism careers.  Some of these jobs require minimal academic knowledge, whilst others require in-depth knowledge about a specific area in business, tourism, accounting, etc.

Qualifications and Experience:

There are no fixed requirements for those that are interested in leisure and tourism careers.  This is because different companies hire according to their immediate needs, and in some cases, experience is more valuable than academic knowledge and accomplishments. This will depend on the company in question.   Some companies will accept high school education to occupy certain roles whilst others require A-levels to consider possible applicants. An applicant with a degree in any related area in tourism will have a higher chance of getting his or her place in tourism and leisure careers than someone that just has basic education. Some other qualities that employers look for include:

• Excellent organisation skills;
• Knowledge of local area;
• Detail-oriented;
• Excellent planning and research skills;

Excellent people skills.
