How to Make Your Hard Copy CV work4u

With the growing use of the internet many job seekers have abandoned the traditional hard copy CV due to a list of advantages and benefits that the technological age guarantees. However, despite these benefits, the use of a hard copy CV can still serve as an effective advert in a number of sectors scattered across the UK. Whether you are delivering it personally or sending it by mail ensuring that your hard copy CV wins the interest, stimulates the desire and boosts the conviction of the job recruiter that you are the perfect candidate for the vacancy is one of the most important steps in job hunting. If you are one of the many job seekers that still believe that a hard copy CV is still effective, then tips below will help you.

·         Cover Letter- Never send your CV without an accompanying cover letter. This can be considered rude, lazy, unprofessional and a whole lot of other unsavoury adjectives that can harm your reputation. Your cover letter should introduce your CV to the job recruiter and should be clearly written and free from typos, spelling and grammatical errors. The cover letter should not be long and should not be seen as a stuffy sales pitch.

·         Content: One of the first issues that will separate your CV from the hundreds of other CVs that flood the HR manager’s office is content. In other word what you have to say about your skills, experiences, qualifications, and courses you are currently taking will say a lot about you and will be used as the dividing line to make a final decision about short-listed candidates. The information should be presented in a clear and understandable fashion with enough spacing between each point.

Bullet points can be used to make readability a lot easier and also to separate key points that are related to the job description. You should always ensure that the most relevant information regarding your qualifications and skills as they pertain to the job requirements is highlighted first. Job recruiters have hundreds of applications coming in on a daily basis and do not want to feel they are losing time finding information in your CV.

·         Envelope and Presentation: If you are going to personally deliver your hard copy CV during your job search, then do not seal the envelope. If you are lucky enough to come face to face with the job recruiter then he or she might be more than willing to take a look at your CV and schedule an interview with you personally. If luck is not working on your side, then the secretary that handles your CV will want to open it and ensure that you really enclosed a cover letter with a CV. Both should be printed on A4 paper size using the same paper colour. There are fancy paper colours on the market, but it is not necessary to use these; the traditional white paper is still the accepted style for most job recruiters.

Avoid envelopes that have an earth tone and are easily camouflaged. Do not bend the CV in a small envelope, but rather use an envelope that is the exact size of the paper. Small envelopes can easily be misplaced and having a crumbled CV sitting on one’s desk is anything but enthusiastic.

·         Follow-up: Once you have mailed or delivered your CV, then do make an attempt to ensure that the job recruiter was able to analyse it.By doing follow-up, you will be showing interest and even if you are not the selected candidate you would have created a good impression for future reference.
